Thanks to the collaboration with the Biomaterials and Encapsulation Laboratories (BEL) of the University of Ferrara, we are currently investigating different drug delivery systems (microspheres, microfibers, microcapsules, lipospheres, emulsions and microemulsions) for nucleic acid-based drugs (microRNA, antagomir and decoy molecules), human osteoblasts, chondrocytes and MSCs.
In addition, cell-encapsulation devices produced by microfluidic approaches and composite alginate-based microfibers containing both extracellular matrix (ECM)-derived biomaterials and chondrocytes, are also investigated as tool for cartilage repair.
