The possibility of modifying a pathological/damaged cell phenotype through the use of nucleic acid-based molecules and thus restoring functional recovery by intervening on the regulation of gene expression is an area that characterizes our research group. In particular, after demonstrating the effectiveness of miR-221 silencing in promoting cartilage repair in vivo and attenuating the degenerated phenotype of IVD cells, we are investigating i. the molecular basis of such an effect, and ii. the potential of a biological therapy with antagomiR-221.
