Creating “bio-inspired materials”

In the field of tissue engineering the ongoing research is particularly aimed at the production and characterization of the decellularized Wharton’s jelly matrix (DWJM) from human umbilical cord as an extracellular matrix (ECM)-based scaffold.

After demonstrating that DWJM improves the behavior of cells from degenerated intervertebral disc, we aim to understand the biomechanical, immunomodulatory, homeostasis maintenance and differentiation properties of the decellularized Wharton’s jelly matrix.
